Making Driving a Pleasure

Why is it that our highways look like parking lots, and parking requires blocks of driving? Imagine being able to drive on roads that move freely at any hour of the day. Imagine having parking spots always available when you want to stop and shop. This is possible today, if we simply accept the facts of life: without pricing, there will never be enough roads and parking. With smart pricing, what we have is more than enough.

Will you pay for pleasure? Will you pay to get your life back? Will you pay to get others off the road, or will you accept payment to be one of the ones going off? Or will you insist on “free” and getting what you pay for?

Paying Per Use = Control and Freedom

Currently, you, like most drivers, probably have no control over your driving costs. Your car lease and insurance are fixed. Your tax bill – which pays for your local roads – is also fixed. Costly repairs are always a risk. And you still pay the mall the same amount for parking, via higher prices, whether you shop once a day or once a week.

As each of these costs are switched to pay-per-use, you the driver get control. Are you worried about how to pay your car lease and insurance bill this month? With pay-per-use, you can choose to pay only when you use your car. If you want to save money, use your car only to drive to work, and walk to the corner store rather than driving to the mall. When you go on vacation you can use the savings from not using your car to treat yourself each day. And all of this can be provided with full privacy protection.

Paying only when you use something gives you the freedom to choose not to use it. With a fixed fee you pay whether you want to or not. Now you can choose to spend or to save the money. Doesn’t that seem fairer, smarter, and truly freer - in the sense of having personal freedom - to you?
